Newberry's ATA Black Belt Academy is a family owned and operated martial arts academy that specializes in giving the whole family a place where they can grow individually, while keeping family bonds strong.  You cannot help but notice the family atmosphere, while still giving serious martial arts training.  The Newberry's have been in business for over 20 years and have over 52 years of combined martial arts experience.  

What Makes the Newberry's Academy Special?

Mrs. Newberry was diagnosed with Dyslexia when she was a child.  This caused school to be very challenging and at times embarrassing for her.  There were even times when she was ridiculed by fellow students.  This struggle has resulted in the energy and passion that fuels this thriving Academy.

No students are compared to other students, we focus only on personal improvement.  We welcome everyone.  We are proud of the fact we are helping many children who might have learning and physical disablities.

Mr. Newberry was a police officer in  Illinois for over 13 years.  His practical experience adds a different perspective, a "street-smart" martial arts program.  Mr. Newberry stands 5'3" and this is how he knows the martial arts techniques he teaches are "street ready" and very low liability.  Mr. Newberry has trained other Illinois Police Officers in the areas of  pressure point control tactics (PPCT), defensive tactics, impact weapons, pepper mace, gun and knife defense, ground fighting, officer safety and awareness, and rape self defense.

Mr. and Mrs. Newberry bring their passions and strengths to the school in their different areas of expertise, providing a strong and balanced martial arts acadamy.  But to make things even better...  

Newberry's Black Belt Academy is a member of the American Taekwondo Association (ATA), one of the world's leading martial arts organizations.  The ATA provides a comprehensive curriculum, and demands professionalism and strict standards from their  instructors.  They also provide instructors with some of the best support in the martial arts industry.
