Why I should be a Black Belt
By Duncan
I deserve my black belt because I have been training for almost three years. I have been going to tournaments since I was a Tiny Tiger orange belt. Ssahng Jeol Bongs are my favorite weapons. I have won many trophies and medals with them. Some of the most important things to learn in Taekwondo are courtesy, loyalty, respect, perseverance, honor, integrity and self-control. I show courtesy by saying "please" and "thank you" and I am learning to be more quiet when other people are talking. I will give other people my seat if there is another seat I can sit in. I am loyal to Mrs. Newberry's school. I respect black belts and other students in Taekwondo and in school and I respect myself and property. When I get mad I don't just kick the wall. I will never ever ever ever give up. That is perseverance. I don't ever stop in the middle of a workout. I keep going even if I get hot or tired or bored. I honor my mother and father. One way I honor them is by trying to do what they tell me to do when they tell me to do it. I honor Newberry's school at tournament by practicing my form when I get there and before the tournament so I can show everybody how good my school is and how good my instructors are. Integrity is what you do when nobody is looking. I tell the truth even though sometimes it gets me in trouble. I only take one piece of candy out of the bowl when I am trick-or-treating. Self-control means to do what I am supposed to be doing which isn't always the same as what I want to be doing. I used to not have very good self control and when I got mad at someone I would hit them. But now, when my sister drives me crazy, I show self-control by just getting away from her. That is all the stuff that I need to tell you about testing for my black belt. These are all the reasons why I deserve to test for my black belt.
