Our son, Corey, has been involved in Taekwondo under the Newberry's instruction beginning as a White Belt Tiny Tiger at five years old. At nine, he achieved the rank of Second Degree Black Belt and today still walks in the doors of Newberry's ATA Black Belt Academy with as much enthusiasm as he did when he first started. Corey is involved in many other sports and activities, but has never wavered in his love for Taekwondo. That, in itself, speaks volumes for the Newberrys, their instructors and their program. All the kids come and make new friends, work hard, but most of all have fun doing it!
The Newberrys' level of high standards, values and expectations are shown in the care and concern for every child. Each child is special to the Newberrys and by building confidence and setting goals, they give them all the opportunity to reach within themselves and succeed. Our son has not only grown in self-confidence and discipline, but has gained respect for himself and, more importantly, for others around him. Through the Jr. Leader program, he is also learning about "giving back" about helping others as you've been helped since he now gets the chance to assist in class and loves helping out in any way he can.
As kids and families today are a little overextended, it's been also comforting to find that the Newberrys emphasize their order of life's importance of faith, family, school and then Taekwondo. Their program has a strong value base and the kids also come to quickly learn, first and foremost, that the three secrets of life are to listen, pay attention and follow directions. We could all learn from that!
In becoming a Black Belt, our son has learned to set and achieve goals, but also learned much about perseverance. Perseverance is a big word around our house to not give up to work hard and focus and it has carried through not just at Taekwondo, but at school, at home, everywhere.
It's been said to succeed, "you need to find something to hold on to, something to motivate you, something to inspire you." On behalf of our son, we thank the Newberrys for that inspiration and are very blessed to be a part of their Taekwondo family.
